CranialSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a fully clothed, gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by eliminating pain and boosting health and immunity.

Using a 10-step protocol to assess the diaphragms of the body (yes, there are more than one!), the provider gently places her hands on the connective tissues of the body, called fascia, to examine their current state and then encourages them to unwind and release unnecessary tension that may have been stored there for months, years or even decades.

Fascia, the connective tissue focal point of CST, is like a thin but strong casing that surrounds and holds your muscles, organs, glands, blood vessels, nerves, brain and spinal cord. Everything in the body is interconnected in a web-like fasion, so when the fascia in one area of the body becomes tightly bound, it then affects the rest of the body and its overall function.

Every body responds differently to care and releases tension at its own rate. It is common for the body to continue “unwinding” after a session, sometimes even beyond the day of receiving care. It is also common to feel emotional after a CST session as our fascia is known to have “memory” stored in areas of tension. Multiple sessions are recommended to support the healing potential of the body with this modality.

Our providers practice CranioSacral Therapy as trained and certified by the Upledger Institute.

CST is currently offered for patients 9 years old and up at Mind and Body Family Wellness. Look for updates in the second half of 2024 when we plan to offer CST for infants and children!
